What are key selling points?

Key selling points are the most important things about yourself. This means what makes you valuable and better than your competitors. Moreover, these are the things that you should say to your employers that will make them hooked, intrigued, and interested. By this action, you can show what you can offer but also leave the employers to ask, “What’s more?” allowing you to give more information and have them know more about you. 

Additionally, key selling points are about quick pitch but still highlight your best features. It should be accurate, concise, and easy for many to understand. In this way, your key selling point can be understood by anyone, which makes you more relatable and makes people gravitate towards you. 

To simplify, KSPs are short introductions like “ We are CCM, a globally recognised college for offering online courses at affordable prices.” In this one sentence, you were able to know the name, what type of organisation, what they offer, and the price point they offer. These factors make them a good choice for a college.

3 main key selling points 

There are multiple key selling points that you can use to highlight yourself. These points are Innovative, Valuable, and Reliable. Now, these 3 KSPs are the most resonating among employers because it is what most of them look for when hiring an employee. 

1. Innovative: Can you make new ideas to solve problems? Are you creative enough to be able to make new ideas for new products or services? These are some of the things that can be asked to know if you are innovative. 
2. Value: Your skill, experience, and character are what make you valuable to a company. They need to know what values can you offer that can benefit them.
3. Reliability: Some people can be the most talented and smartest yet cannot be relied on. To show that you are reliable, you can tell the employers how you can finish your tasks without the need to be monitored or be able to reach the target before deadlines. 

Delivering your key selling points 

Good communication is also important in delivering your KSP. Even though you have the greatest skill and experience, it will be hard for you to convince an employer why you are a great choice. Below are the four types of communication and how you can use them. 

• Verbal: Using clear and simple words is the most effective way to communicate verbally. Short, understandable sentences help ensure your message is easy to follow and remember.
• Non-Verbal: Non-verbal communication, such as body language, facial expressions, and gestures, can reinforce your message. For example, maintaining eye contact and using a confident posture can make your delivery more convincing.
• Visual: Visual communication involves using images, diagrams, or videos to explain or enhance your key selling points. Nowadays, employment does not start and stop with face-to-face interviews. Some employers like to see your LinkedIn or other social media accounts to see more about you. In this way, you can use your accounts as a platform to show your skills using infographics and other visual aids.
• Written: Written communication, such as brochures, emails, or advertisements, allows you to present your KSPs in a structured and detailed manner. Ensure your writing is concise, error-free, and tailored to your job application.

It is important to note that key selling points should also be direct so they can capture the attention of someone. Additionally, make it impactful and easy to understand. Just like selling a phone, not everyone knows the technical specifications, but everyone can understand when you say, “This phone takes high-quality photos”. So as to say, instead of saying, “I am good at using Asana”, you can say, “ I am good at tracking my team of 20 people and making sure that deadlines are met”.
